Homework Assignment

Hope you can read the photograph of our homework assignment...

Bubble maps

Today we embarked on the journey of Thinking Maps.  We started the day, in Reading, looking at words we would use to describe one of our favorite characters (after we described ourselves).  Students then identified the adjectives they felt best described that character.  The frame?  Holding those 2 adjectives in mind .... How would Irene deal with losing her homework?

In Writing time we used the Bubble Map to describe a school object and then challenged ourselves to add adjectives (those, or others) to our own writing.

Overall, a good first go of it :)

Thinking About Training

Reflecting on the past three days of training made me think with a circle map.  I used a circle map to help me organize what I feel we need to focus on for successful Thinking Maps workshops.  I haven't downloaded the program for making these maps just yet.  Instead, I created this map using a free program called Paintbrush.  I don't know where to download it because I am not sure where I'll be making the maps most often, but this free graphics program may do the trick for now.  To the brave person who downloads it first, please let us know where and why.  Thanks.

Free Paintbrush program:

Now that I've made this map, I realize there is so much more I can add to it:  Follow up, no condescension, support... (please add more in comments).

Three Days of Training... Done!

There's a lot to process - three days' worth of a new tool that may change the way our students think.  Very soon, we should all post examples of how we've implemented these innovative visuals.  I know we will face numerous challenges; however, we can support one another.  Eventually we will master how to use these maps through trial and error, and be thoroughly prepared to train others.

Good luck everyone.
